Soil Remediation
The first step in remediation is identifying a release. This is commonly done during soil/tank testing. Once a leak is identified, use of the contaminant source should immediately be ceased and action to remove that source should be initiated.
The extent of the contamination is then determined via a dilineation. At this point, a decision is made to pursue remediation activities or to limit activities to an investigation (if testing levels fall within state mandated levels). Should groundwater be encountered, your insurance provided would be contacted due to potential groundwater contamination being commonly acknowledged as a 3rd party liability in many insurance policies. Remedial activities are then coordinated with the insuring agency.
Should remedial activities commence, the contamination soil is removed and disposed at a state certfied facility. Our state certified Subsurface Evaluators will test the are to ensure the surrounding soil is free of contamination. Samples are taken and analyzed for documentation and reporting to the DEP.
Excavations are then filled to grade with certified clean fill and reporting to DEP commences in the form of a Remedial Action Report or Site Investigation. The DEP reviews this report and issues a No Further Action Letter (NFA) for the property.
